UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Decatur Raiders used big plays and a stingy defense to defeat the Union City Chargers 20-8 on Friday night at Alumni Field in a Southwest 10/Big 8 Conference crossover game.
The Raiders held Union City’s vaunted running game to just 91 yards rushing and had a 305 to 124 edge in total yards.
Decatur built a 20-0 halftime lead on a 60-yard scamper by quarterback Cayden Cropsey, a 44-yard touchdown pass from Cropsy to Aidan Wiggins and a 50-yard interception return just before halftime by Brody Mead.
Union City’s only touchdown came on a one yard run by Trey McDonald with 2:52 left in the third quarter.
McDonald wound up with 44 yards on 12 carries while Braxton Miller had 30 yards on nine carries for the Chargers. Cropsey was the leading rusher with 95 yards on seven carries. He also passed for 101 yards.
It was the regular season finale for both teams. The Southwest 10 champion Raiders are 7-2 while the Chargers dropped to 5-4.
