COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A divided Coldwater City Council approved a request Monday night for a temporary construction easement over the southeast entrance drive area in the Tibbits Plaza parking lot on West Pearl Street.
The Council voted 5-3 in favor of the request from Kanaan Communications who were acting on acting on behalf of Frontier North and Frontier Midstates.
City Attorney Amanda O’Boyle said in her memo to the Council that the company has determined that the construction easement is necessary to facilitate the Branch County fiber project being administered by Frontier, as the work will be outside of the right-of-way and include concrete removal and replacement.
Frontier has been doing work throughout the city as part of the project but O’Boyle pointed out there have been complaints.
City Manager Keith Baker said a meeting was held last week with project representatives about resident complaints.
Council members Emily Rissman, Scott Houtz, Randall Hazelbaker and Mike Beckwith along with Mayor Tom Kramer voted yes while Council members John Petzko, Travis Machan and James Knaack voted no.
