COLDWATER, MI (WTVB)- The woman arrested on multiple drug charges during a traffic stop in Bronson Township just after midnight Wednesday morning was arraigned in Branch County District Court late Wednesday afternoon.
39-year-old Tairum Lee-Ann Smith who was originally identified as a resident of Angola, IN in a sheriff’s office press release and later identified as a resident of Quincy is now listed on court documents as living in Coldwater.
Smith pled not guilty to charges of Felony Controlled Substance – Delivery/Manufacture Methamphetamine, Felony Controlled Substance – Delivery/Manufacture Cocaine, Heroin or Methamphetamine and Felony Operating – License Suspended, Revoked, Denied
Smith was arrested after a police canine alerted to narcotics, during a search deputies allegedly found approximately 242.2 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 11 bindles of suspected heroin, among other items.
Smith told police she was headed home to Angola but was driving in the wrong direction when she was pulled over.
Smith allegedly admitted to purchasing the methamphetamine with the intent to sell it.
Smith is being held on a $150,000 bond with conditions including no controlled substance possession or use, random drug testing, she cannot leave the state without approval.
A probable cause hearing is scheduled for December 2, and a preliminary exam on December 9. Due to a prior conviction, Smith faces potential enhanced penalties.
