COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The average cost of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner in Michigan for 10 people this year is approximately $51.80, or about $5.18 per person.
This is below the national average of $55.18 and represents a decrease from the previous year.
The Michigan Farm Bureau’s annual survey, which tracks the cost of classic Thanksgiving items, reported the following average prices for ingredients in a meal serving 10 people:
– 16-pound turkey $21.50, down 16.3%
– 14-ounce box of stuffing mix $3.71, down 9%
– 3 pounds of sweet potatoes $4.00, up 37%
– 1 dozen dinner rolls $3.56, down 14.6%
– 30-ounce can of pumpkin pie mix $4.16, up 0.1%
– 1 gallon of whole milk $3.73, up 16.3%
– 1pound veggie tray (carrots & celery) $1.36 up 61.3%
– Misc. ingredients (spices, etc.) $3.61, down 4.
For an expanded meal that includes boneless ham, frozen green beans, and Russet potatoes, the national average cost was $77.09.
Grocery stores like Walmart and Aldi offer pre-bundled meal options for around $40 to feed 10 people, which can be an even more affordable option.
