COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was arraigned Friday on domestic violence and weapons charges.
34-year-old Ryan Lynn Cotton faces multiple felony charges following an alleged domestic disturbance and assault involving a firearm Thursday evening.
Coldwater Police were dispatched to a home on Williams Street where the incidents allegedly occurred, leading to charges including Felony Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Felony Firearms-Possession by a Felon and Felony Domestic Violence. Cotton is accused of pointing a gun at another individual and physically assaulting a female.
According to the complaint, witnesses reported that Cotton, who was allegedly intoxicated, made threats and displayed a firearm before assaulting the female by body-slamming her onto a bed. A subsequent search of the garage attic where Cotton resided reportedly uncovered a loaded .40 caliber handgun with ammunition.
Cotton is identified as a convicted felon with prior convictions in Florida.
Cotton was arraigned Friday in Branch County District Court, where bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety. Conditions of his bond prohibit contact with the alleged victims and restrict him from the Williams Street property.
A preliminary examination is scheduled for December 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. before Judge Brent Weigle.
