When writing a poem, it allows me to say
A lot of short views, in a slight teasing way.
Mrs. Mac likes my poems though I don’t do too many,
And I’m sure some of you wish I wouldn’t do any.
It’s Thanksgiving weekend, and as I think who to thank
For the good in my life; I want to be frank.
My life is quite good; I’m happy, I’m well.
In fact, most would assess that things are just swell.
But my country is hurting, our freedom’s not free,
Our leaders aren’t leading, but bending the knee
To a Promiser-in-Chief, whose swagger just leads
To unhinged ideas, to which Congress concedes.
He said, “Release the files? Day One, don’t delay,”
“That Epstein’s a bad guy and his ilk should all pay.”
Then inauguration came and the evidence vanished,
And any investigation by Bondi was banished.
The files on her desk, that were all stacked in a pile
Now revealed no misdeeds and showed nothing too vile.
We should just all forget it, it’s more of that fake news,
Like felony convictions that we’ve been told to excuse.
But then, something happened, Congress grew a spine,
At least four or five did, they crossed MAGA’s line.
So, all of a sudden, they were all told to support,
And then “that’s just what I wanted” POTUS could report.
Cracking down on illegals, “We’ll get the worst of the worst!”
But grandmas and landscapers got rounded up first.
A nanny, a teacher, a roofer, a cook,
Got tackled and zip-tied, there were quotas to book.
We decided that MAHA will make America more well.
And if RFK runs it, it should turn out real swell.
Vaccines aren’t important, in fact science be damned,
Measles is back now and Tylenol’s been slammed.
“America FIRST!” was the cry all along,
When Argentina gets billions, see anything wrong?
They’re hurting, we’re told, they need all that money,
But American farmers find the irony un-funny.
“No more wars!” Trump declared, with drama and flair,
Then launched multiple missions, who made the dare?
In Iran, and in Africa, and now out on the seas,
We’re blowing up boats, can we see evidence, please?
“We won’t touch the House,” for a ballroom, we heard,
For which polls showed approval by less than a third.
Then the East Wing was gone in three or four days,
No approval, no oversight was needed he says.
Two years ago, crypto was a hoax, such flim flam,
Til the Trump coin debuted, now it’s no longer a scam.
The profits keep coming, and though he may not understand it,
With billions to pocket, he’ll figure how to brand it.
A crypto crook chose for a pardon to try,
“I don’t know him,” Trump said, his go-to reply.
But the crook had helped Trump’s boys to make such a killing,
So, Presto, the pardon pen became willing.
Upset by government legal actions of past,
Trump decided he’s due compensation, and fast.
Two thirty mil, is not much of an ask,
When your own personal lawyers take on the task.
“Drain the swamp!” we all heard time and again.
But defining who’s swampy is subjective often.
Billionaires line up to fawn and to pay,
Their dignity lost, their fealty on display.
Rally crowds are massive, “the biggest! the most!”
The pictures? A hoax, “they’re huge” is the boast.
They’re “eating the dogs,” is just one rant we’ve heard,
“Don’t believe what you read, it’s a cult, trust my word.”
Social Security was sound, and safe as can be,
“I won’t touch it,” he promised on Wednesday at three.
Then on Thursday he said we may have to cut,
But hey, that’s just life folks, it’s today’s kick in the gut.
So happy Thanksgiving; as you enjoy your feast,
As you dish up the dressing, and slice the roast beast,
Don’t forget to say thank you for traditions forsaken,
For anarchy, chaos, and the high price of bacon.
But mostly for topics, that allow us to rant
About things that should change but right now they just can’t.
A never-ending supply of deranged wacky decisions
That come so damn fast that there’s no time for revisions.
This effort went longer, some topics I must leave,
It rambled a little, my own attempt at a weave,
Happy Thanksgiving to all, I wish you the best,
I’ll weave less going forward, my own cognitive test.
