COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Even though there were 981 reported vehicle-deer crashes in Branch County in 2024, that only puts the county 24th out of the state’s 83 counties in the amount of accidents.
Information from the Michigan State Police says drivers reported 58,324 deer-involved vehicle crashes statewide last year. That’s up 28% since 2014.
Two of the state’s largest counties, Kent and Oakland, each reported more than 2,000 deer-involved crashes last year. The next-highest total was Jackson County with 1,557.
While 97% of deer-involved crashes didn’t injure people, there were 1,613 collisions that did include human injuries, plus 14 fatal crashes.
Branch County’s crashes increased 4.14% in 2024, up from 942 accidents in 2023.
St. Joseph County saw 531 crashes in 2024, with 1,109 in Hillsdale County, and 1,382 in Calhoun County.
