COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Road Commission put in some long hours over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend to battle the first major winter storm to hit Branch County in nearly three years.
Manager Jay Miller says they began prepping for the storm last Wednesday night, priming roads such as I-69, US-12, and M-86.
He says throughout the process, they had 30 trucks on the road to battle the storm. He says the main roads get the early attention, but they try to reach all the county roads within the first 24 hours.
He says roads refreezing, as they did Sunday night, presents its own challenges, but they now have night crews to try and stay ahead of potential issues.
As is the case for any road crews in Michigan in the winter, there is no rest for the weary. Miller says his crews are already prepping for more potential snow this week.
As a good rule of thumb, if you encounter a snow plow on the roads, you’re asked to give them room to operate.
