COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The man charged with running down a Coldwater Lake couple with his truck in June 2024 has been found competent to stand trial.
Branch County Circuit Court Judge Bill O’Grady found 23-year-old MacCain Matthew Snyder competent to stand trial this week, allowing the case involving multiple felony charges to proceed.
Snyder faces two counts of attempted murder for allegedly running down a Coldwater Lake couple with his truck June 10, 2024, an incident tied to his alleged obsession with their granddaughter.
The competency ruling follows a series of mental health evaluations after Snyder was initially found incompetent to stand trial in September 2024.
After treatment at the State Center for Forensic Psychiatry and subsequent evaluations, a third psychiatrist’s report that was accepted by both the prosecution and defense determined he is now capable of assisting in his defense.
Under state law, the deadline for Snyder to be competent to stand trial after getting treatment is January 1, 2026.
Snyder remains held on a more than $10 million bond as the case moves forward in the Branch County Circuit Court.
