COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As Michiganders prepare for another festive Christmas season, new data for 2025 reveals that while traditional roasts anchor the dinner table, the state’s true holiday obsession remains a sweet classic, the sugar cookie.
Despite a national surge in gingerbread popularity, which accounted for 76% of holiday cookie purchases across 38 states this year, Michigan has held firm to its long-standing tradition. According to recent consumer trends, the classic sugar cookie remains Michigan’s most iconic holiday dish to “whip up” at home.
For the main Christmas Eve or Christmas Day meal, Michigan families are increasingly turning to high-end red meats.
Grocery trends for 2025 show a massive spike in orders ribeye and roasts surging over 2,200% just days before Christmas.
Prime Rib has seen a 1,900% increase in purchase share.
