MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – A new technology park planned for Marshall,
which includes a large-scale data center and an integrated natural gas generation plant, is progressing after the Marshall Local Development Finance Authority approved a $1.12 million land deal with Alterra Development.
The purchase agreement, authorized on October 30, 2025, covers approximately 270 acres within the Brooks Industrial Park , with 112 buildable acres designated for the co-located data center and power source.
Alterra Development anticipates creating 300 to 500 skilled jobs and generating millions in annual tax revenue.
Addressing environmental concerns, the facility will use a closed-loop liquid cooling system to conserve water and employ wetland mitigation and land consolidation to protect the Brooks Nature Area.
The project is currently in a due diligence phase, including environmental reviews by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2026.
Construction is planned to begin after these studies are finalized.
