COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Citizens who want to better understand the responsibilities of City departments in Coldwater and the services they provide are encouraged to apply for Coldwater’s Citizen’s Academy, a series of tours and presentations from February 5 to March 19.
The Citizens Academy was last held 2024, this free 7-week course will help attendees discover how local government and the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities operate and serve the Coldwater community.
Participants will enjoy exclusive tours of key City facilities including Water Treatment Plant, Public Safety building, Henry L. Brown Municipal Building, Dr. Robert W. Browne Recreation Center, Department of Municipal Services complex, and the Electric Department building.
While weekly attendance is encouraged, participants are not required to attend every session.
Sessions include:
- Feb 5: Local Government & Finances
- Feb 12: Getting the Job Done with Neighborhood Services and Department of Municipal Services
- Feb 19: Economic Development, Recreation & Community Engagement
- Feb 26: CBPU Part 1: CBPU, Electric & Engineering
- March 5: CBPU Part 2: Water, Wastewater, & Telecommunications
- March 12: Emergency Services and the Role of Fire
- March 19: Emergency Services and the Role of Police
Sessions will take place Thursday nights at 6pm and will last up to 2 hours. The 2026 cohort will accept between 12-20 participants.
Applicants must be 18 or older, and be either a resident of the City of Coldwater, work in Coldwater, or be residents of Coldwater Township, but City residents will be given priority during the application process.
