QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles went 10-of-12 from the foul line in the final quarter Tuesday night as they defeated the Union City Chargers 46-38 in a Big 8 Conference boys basketball game inside of the Coolest Gym in Michigan.
It was close throughout the game. The eight point margin of victory was Quincy’s biggest lead of the night.
The Orioles led 11-7 after the first quarter but Union City used a 14-10 second quarter to tie the game 21-21 at the half. The second quarter featured four Charger buckets from distance.
Quincy outscored Union City 11-6 in the third quarter to regain the lead at 32-27.
A bucket by Jacob Smith put the Chargers on top 35-34 with about four-and-a-half minutes left. Carson Haylett quickly responded with a basket which put the Orioles ahead for good as they outscored the Chargers 12-3 down the stretch.
Quincy scored the last seven points of the game which included six straight foul shots by Braylon Estlow. He finished with a game-high 18 points and six rebounds. Alex Dunn added 12 points for the Orioles.
Nolan Chard led Union City with 13 points which included nine points in the fourth quarter. Smith added 10 points.
While Quincy was 13-of-17 from the stripe for the night, Union City only went to the line twice in the first quarter and made one.
Quincy is now 4-5 overall while Union City drops to 3-8. Both teams are 2-3 in the Big 8.
Union City defeated Quincy in the J.V. game 58-40.
