BRONSON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB)- A routine traffic stop in Bronson Township early Thursday morning escalated into a brief vehicle pursuit and foot chase, culminating in the arrest of a 27-year-old male.
At approximately 2:17 a.m., a Branch County Sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle traveling with an improper license plate and committing a lane violation near the intersection of Orland Road and Slisher Road. When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver refused to pull over and continued northbound, prompting the pursuit.
During the chase, the vehicle passed another motorist, swerved across the roadway, and crossed into the oncoming lane of travel before the driver eventually brought it to a stop.
The suspect then fled on foot, leading to a short foot pursuit. The deputy deployed a taser to subdue the individual, who was taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities identified the suspect as a 27-year-old Mexican national Jose Andres Dias-Perez was unlawfully present in the United States.
He was lodged in the Branch County Jail on felony charges, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on him.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Branch County Central Dispatch during the incident. No injuries were reported.
