Jason M. Deck, 54, of Bronson, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at his home.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Hayden officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will take place prior to the service from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Jason was born August 3, 1971 in Hillsdale, MI, to Thomas C. Deck and Diane L. (Linker) Butler. He graduated from Hillsdale High School and earned his associates degree in criminal justice from Kellogg Community College.
Jason went on to become the Chief of Police at the Reading Police Department. At that time, he was the youngest police chief in the State of Michigan. He later continued in law enforcement with the City of Hillsdale Police Department ending his career there as a Sergeant.
Jason lived with a servant’s heart and was always looking for ways to help others, especially those walking the path of recovery that he knew so well. He offered encouragement without judgment and showed up when it mattered most. He became a friend to everyone he met along the way.
He found quiet joy in caring for animals, often visiting shelters to walk dogs and spend time with cats who needed companionship. His kindness, compassion, and steady presence left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
He loved the beach, especially New Smyrna Beach and Daytona. There, the ocean brought him peace. He cherished time spent at the Ocean Deck Restaurant, a place that held special meaning for him. He truly enjoyed a relaxing walk along the shoreline or sitting with family and friends taking in that perfect sunset and the ocean breezes.
Jason is survived by his father, Thomas (Kathe) Deck of Coldwater; and his mother, Diane (Dee) Butler of Deltona, FL; his siblings, Christopher (Sona) Deck of Frisco, Tx; Heather (Andrew) Deck Tobin of Highlands Ranch, CO; his nephews Reagan Deck, Maverick Deck, Trent Tobin; his former spouse Barbara Dahlstrom of Reading, MI; and step children, Seth (Bridget) Jagger, Grand Rapids, MI; Devin (Harmony) Jagger, Jackson, MI; and Lauren (Nick) Signore, Jenison, MI; his aunts Carol Teverbaugh and Donna Deck.
Jason was preceded in death by his stepfathers David Brown and Christian Butler, and his uncles John Deck and Archie Teverbaugh.
