UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The state’s second ranked team in Division Four was too much for the Union City Chargers to overcome on Tuesday night as the Concord Yellow Jackets stayed unbeaten in the Big 8 Conference with a 60-31 victory at McNett Fieldhouse.
Union City entered the game just a half game back of Concord for first place in the Big 8. But the Yellow Jackets announced their presence with authority in the first quarter as they jumped out to a 22-11 lead.
They then held Union City scoreless in the second quarter as the Yellow Jackets built a 30-11 halftime lead.
Union City could not mount a serious challenge in the second half as Concord increased their lead to 44-23 after the third quarter. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Chargers 16-8 in the final period.
For Concord, it was the story of a girl named Bradie as Bradie Lehman scored a game-high 29 points. Cieara Barrett added 15 points.
Nala Payne led Union City with 14 points including 12 in the second half. Ellie Williams added eight points.
Concord is now 10-1 overall and 6-0 in the Big 8 Conference. Union City drops to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference.
Concord also won the J.V. game 35-33.
