JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School gymnastics team traveled to Jackson High School for a dual Tuesday night, with the Cardinals dropping the contest 109.875-130.575.
Despite the loss, the Cardinals ended the night with five individual regional qualifiers.
The Cardinals started the meet on bars with the white team. Isabella Cornish was the only girl to compete on bars for the white team, ending with a 3.875. For our red team, competing were Payton Taylor, Maryfer Galvan, Kennedy Austin, Kristian Thorton (5.6), Annika Johnson (5.225), Sofia Gruner (5.725), and Macy Poradzisz (5.95).
For the second event, the cardinals went to vault. Starting was Cornish, and Jaliana Zepeda, who represented the white team. Representing the red team were Taylor, Johnson (7.65), Austin, Galvan (7.575), and Poradzisz. The two girls who ended the event with regional qualifiers were Gruner, who got a 7.95 and officially qualified for regionals for vault with her fifth qualifier, and Thorton, who got her second qualifier with an 8.05.
The floor started with our white team; leading was Cornish, and ending was Zepeda. Our red team included Taylor, Austin, Poradzisz (7.025), Galvan (6.775), Gruner, who got her third regional qualifier on floor with a 7.8, and Johnson, who ended this event with her second qualifier on floor with a 7.825.
Making their debut for the white team on beam were Cornish and Zepeda. Our red team was up next, which included Taylor, Austin, Thornton, Galvan (5.925), Johnson (6.875), Poradzisz (6.3), and ending with Gruner, who got her fifth qualifier on beam with a 7.625 and officially qualified for regionals in this event.
Coldwater gymnastics will host its first home meet of the season against Saline Thursday, January 29 for Parents’ Night.
