COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Police Department is asking for the publics assistance in solving a theft that occurred earlier this month in downtown Coldwater, where two juvenile suspects allegedly stole a teenager’s electric scooter from outside a local business.
The incident took place on the evening of January 3, 2026.
A local teenager had ridden his black electric scooter to the comic book shop at 16 W. Chicago Street and secured it in the bike rack in front of the store. While the owner was inside shopping around 6 p.m., two unknown white male juveniles reportedly took the scooter and fled eastbound along Chicago Street.
The scooter, valued at approximately $400, was a recent holiday gift the teenager had received just weeks earlier.
Investigators are referring to the suspects informally as “area scooter bandits” as they seek information that could lead to their identification or the recovery of the stolen property.
Anyone with information about the incident—including possible sightings of the scooter, knowledge of the suspects’ identities, or any related details, is encouraged to contact SGT Bryan Regan at the Coldwater Police Department at (517) 278-4525.
Tips can be provided anonymously if preferred.
The Coldwater Police Department continues to monitor local trends in thefts involving personal mobility devices and reminds residents to secure valuables, even for short periods.
