COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A 49-year-old Lansing man with a violent past was arraigned in Branch County Circuit Court late last week.
Gregory Oswald-Matthew Wines, faces serious felony charges following allegations of criminal sexual conduct involving a 15-year-old girl in Coldwater.
According to court documents, Wines is accused of two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct (person 13 through 15) and one count of accosting children for immoral purposes.
The charges stem from an incident on or about January 3, 2026, where the victim, a fifteen year old female , reportedly met Wines through the dating app.
The complaint alleges that Wines, who claimed to be 35, engaged in sexual activities with the minor after picking her up early in the morning, driving around, and taking her to a trailer in Trail Tree Village Trailer Park.
The investigation began after Battle Creek Police referred the case to Coldwater Police Department. A forensic interview with the victim detailed how she informed Wines of her age, expressed reluctance for sexual activity, but the encounter escalated. The pair later purchased Plan B at Walmart, with surveillance footage and vehicle tracking via Flock system linking Wines’ vehicle to the scene and timeline.
An undercover operation by Officer Kaden Hisel on the same app further corroborated patterns, as Wines allegedly contacted a decoy posing as a 15-year-old, expressing interest in underage girls and requesting photos.
Witnesses include the victim, family members, Sergeant Sarah Gunneman, and others involved in the probe. Wines, representing himself in court during his arraignment, has a prior criminal history including 1994 convictions for armed robbery, felony murder, and kidnapping in Kent County, classifying him as a habitual offender-fourth offense, which could enhance penalties significantly.
Judge Brent R. Weigle set a $500,000 cash/surety bond and imposed strict conditions, including no contact with the victim, no contact with any minors, and no use of internet-connecting devices.
A probable cause examination is scheduled for February 3, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., with a Preliminary Exam on February 10, 2026 at 2:30 p.m..
Wines was free on bond out of Jackson County at the time of his arrest on charges of accosting a child for immoral purposes, one charge of using a computer to commit a crime, habitual fourth offense. That arrest was from an undercover sex trafficking operation led by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police that led to the arrest of five men last November.
