Remus was born December 18, 1934 in Tekonsha to Mahlon R. Rigg and Marion (Hill) (Rigg) Connelly. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1953 and went to complete the AG Tech short course at Michigan State University. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Ruth Fenner. Together they not only built a successful dairy farm, but a life grounded in hard work, faith and devotion to family.
Remus was a man of many accomplishments, though he never felt the need to brag about them. He believed in showing up, working hard, and doing right by others. Above all else, his greatest legacy was his faith. He lived each day striving to follow Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, quietly setting an example for his family, church, and community; usually without asking for recognition, and often with a dry sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth; his son, Steven M. Rigg; his daughter, Catherine Harari; and his brother, Bruce Rigg.
In 2010, Remus found love again when he married Donna (Bodie) McLaughlin. Together, they enjoyed traveling, laughter, and many cherished adventures, creating joyful memories in there years together.
Remus is survived by his wife, Donna; his daughter Lisa (Orville D.) Huff; his son in law, Steven L. Harari; his grandchildren Kyle (Dawn) Huff; Stacey (Aaron) Ginsburg; Alaina (Dustin) Poe; Thomas R. Harari; John R. Harari; and his great-grandchildren; Grace Huff; Christian Huff; Annabell Huff; Genevieve and Anastasia Brigman; Logan Poe, Oliver Poe, Rylee Poe; who will carry on his legacy, his stories, and quite possibly his stubborn streak. He is also survived by Donna’s children Vicki Owens; Ed (Lisa) McLaughlin; Maggie (Greg Zirzow) Hartzler; Maralee (Jimmie) Ford; her grandson Bryan (Nicole) Eckert; as well as many other loving McLaughlin grandchildren.
Remus will be remembered for his faith, his dedication to family, and the quiet strength with which he lived his legacy. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the love he shared.
In memory of his lifelong dedication to Michigan State University, please wear your green and white if you plan to attend the funeral. Go Green!
