COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The freezing temperatures may have actually helped to save a life on Coldwater Lake Wednesday evening after a car went onto the lake and rolled onto its side on the ice.
According the Branch County Sheriff’s Department, an 84-year-old female from Kinderhook, Township, was traveling south on Centennial Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at Warren Road near Lake Drive Marina, with her vehicle going out on the ice and rolling over.
Sheriff deputies and a MSP Trooper were able to extricate her from vehicle before fire and ambulance arrived.
The driver was subsequently turned over to Lakeland Fire Department and Life Care EMS and was transported to Insight Hospital and Medical Center Coldwater for treatment.
VIP Towing later recovered the vehicle from the ice.
With the recent days of bitter cold, the lake had frozen over enough to support the weight of the vehicle from going into the water.
