COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – All though there are no current proposal’s to place a data center in Branch County, several Michigan counties are grappling with the question if they are actually good for their communities with some of the concerns being the massive amount of energy they consume as well as the large amount of water resources they take to operate.
State Representative Jennifer Wortz (R-Quincy) says she is authoring a bill that would place a one year moratorium on any new data centers in the state until they can gather more information.
Wortz says they need to make sure if and when the data centers are built they need to pick the appropriate locations.
Currently their are talks to put data centers in Kent and Ingham counties but both have been met with opposition with one of the main concerns being the potential spike in electric bills in those areas.
