COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coach Eby Youth and Family Center is concluding its 24-hour emergency warming shelter operations today as local temperatures finally rise above the 25-degree threshold.
The center, located in a 108-year-old former Armory at 89 West Chicago Street, has served as a critical lifeline since opening January 17 in response to a brutal arctic freeze that has gripped Branch County for nearly two weeks.
During its operation, the facility provided cots, blankets, and three hot meals daily to dozens of residents seeking refuge from sub-zero wind chills.
The original plan called for the warming center to be open for four days but with the extended cold the the center has served as a warming shelter for just over two weeks.
