JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Following a period of severe cold that led to a 25% increase in natural gas usage, Consumers Energy is advising customers in Michigan to anticipate higher utility bills.
The company is implementing an outreach campaign, which includes distributing $5 million to nonprofit groups and providing supplies to warming shelters, to help residents cope with increased costs.
According to Lauren Snyder, senior vice president and chief customer officer, Consumers Energy is identifying customers most likely to be affected to offer payment support and advice on reducing energy consumption.
Customers needing assistance can contact 2-1-1 for financial resources or visit the company’s assistance page. Consumers Energy’s systems have remained operational despite the weather strain.
