BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council approved a five-year contract agreement with Washler, Incorporated of Garrett, Indiana on Monday night to handle all residential trash and recycling collection starting March 1, 2026.
City Manager Brandon Mersman says that under this deal, Washler will provide carts and weekly pickup for trash, as well as recycling services for all residential, multi family, and commercial small customers that wish to use 96-gallon totes.
He added in his memo to the Council, “The contract is designed to protect the City and keep services reliable. It includes clear rules for how waste should be handled and gives the City the power to end the agreement if the service isn’t meeting our standards. It also ensures that any disputes would be handled locally in Branch County courts.”
Washler was one of three companies to submit bids. One of the other bids came from Republic. The current contract between the City of Bronson and Republic expires March 1.
With the change to Washler, trash and recycling days in Bronson would change to Wednesday. In addition, recycling and bulk pickup would take place on alternating Wednesdays. All bulk items would be $15 per item.
Washler carts are scheduled to be delivered during the last week of February. The first pickup date would be March 3.
