COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – While much of the election attention in Michigan this year will be on the U.S. Senate and Governor’s races, there will be other seats to be filled around the Branch County area.
After first being elected in 2024, 35th District State Representative Jennifer Wortz of Quincy has already filed her reelection paperwork. So far no one else has filed for the seat that covers all of Branch and Hillsdale counties, as well as the City of Hudson in Lenawee County. Michigan House of Representative seats are two year terms.
All state Senate seats are also up for election in 2026. No one has filed yet for the 17th District seat, currently held by Senator Jonathon Lindsey of Coldwater, but he is expected to file for reelection within the next several weeks..
No one has filed yet for the 5th District Congressional seat current held by Tim Walberg, although he is expected to run for a 10th term this year.
The filing deadline for the August 4 Primary Election is April 21, 2026.
There is no Primary for school board elections, with Board of Education members selected in the November 3 General Election. For the Coldwater Community Schools, the terms of Dr. Edward Lake, Jeff Holbrook, and Clair Dean are expiring.
Meantime, Union City Community Schools is looking to fill a vacancy on its board. The deadline to apply is Thursday, March 12, with interviews to be conducted at the Board of Education meeting Monday, March 16.
