MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – Opponents of Ford Motor Company’s BlueOval Battery Park in Marshall, announced a new court filing, seeking to appeal a recent Michigan Court of Appeals ruling to the state’s Supreme Court.
The Committee for Marshall—Not the Megasite, a local residents’ group, plans to submit an “Application for Leave to Appeal” challenging the appellate court’s February 25 decision that dismissed their long-running lawsuit.
The case centers on claims that the rezoning of rural land for the massive electric vehicle battery plant violated local procedures and residents’ rights to pursue a referendum on the change.
The latest filing represents the newest chapter in a multi-year legal battle that has repeatedly delayed aspects of the more than three billion dollar project, though the plant is now on track to begin production this summer.
The group argues the Court of Appeals wrongly rejected their position, and they hope the Michigan Supreme Court will reconsider the matter, potentially halting or altering construction on the mile-long facility.
Ford and local economic development officials have maintained that all approvals were properly handled, with prior courts including a remand from the Supreme Court in 2025, ultimately siding against the opposition groups core arguments.
