COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency has launched its 2026 “Lock It Up” campaign, partnering with local agencies to distribute free safe storage locking bags across all three counties.
Funded by the Marijuana Operation and Oversight Grant, the initiative addresses rising safety concerns, aiming to prevent accidental ingestion of medications and marijuana products by children and pets.
Health Officer Rebecca Burns says the importance of securing THC edibles, which can appear as snacks to children, especially as the Michigan Poison Control Center reported 683 cases of THC exposure in minors during 2024.
Residents can obtain a locking bag while supplies last at various locations in Branch County, including The Branch County Sheriff’s office, Health Agency offices, Pines Behavioral Health, Branch ISD office on Lincoln Street, as well as several dispensaries.
Common symptoms of THC ingestion in children include, lethargy, confusion, poor coordination, nausea, vomiting, seizures and difficulty breathing.
