QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy improved to 1-1-1 on the young baseball season as they took the first game of their Thursday doubleheader against Hillsdale 6-5. The second game ended in a 5-5 tie after four innings due to darkness.
The Orioles trailed the Hornets in the opener 4-1 before scoring two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to take the lead. Kale Dirschell picked up the win in relief of starter JJ Wright, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits in 2 2/3 innings, while Cobee Stevens struck out the final batter to earn the save. For his part, Wright struck out 7 in his four innings of work. Offensively, Dirschell doubled and scored two runs. Matthew Taylor, JJ Wright, Ethan Drumm, and Andrew Dunn had the other hits.
In the nightcap, Quincy scored 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth to salvage the tie. Stevens had two hits and drove in two runs.
The Orioles will open up Big 8 play next Tuesday at Springport.
