ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A Steuben County Community Corrections officer is facing felony charges after allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.
34-year-old Micale Wells has been charged with sexual misconduct and official misconduct, both of which carry potential prison sentences of up to two and a half years.
Indiana State Police began investigating the allegations late last year, and according to court records, Wells was interviewed in January.
Investigators say Wells admitted to having a sexual encounter with the inmate at the Community Corrections facility and sharing photos of herself with him, describing the relationship as “great.”
She also acknowledged having strong feelings for the inmate during his time in a work release program but claimed she did not provide any special treatment.
Court documents indicate Wells knew her actions were a crime and expressed fear about the consequences, telling investigators she had never been in trouble before.
Wells has since bonded out of the Steuben County Jail.
