FREEPORT, BAHAMAS (WTVB) – Brian Hooker, a native of Onsted, Michigan, has left the Bahamas just days after being released from police custody without charges.
His attorney, Terrel Butler, says Hooker departed on a commercial flight to the United States to be with his ill mother.
Hooker’s departure from the Bahamas comes after a week of intense scrutiny following the disappearance of his wife, 55-year-old Lynette Hooker , who has been missing since April 4.
Brian Hooker reported that she fell overboard from their 8-foot dinghy in rough conditions while they were traveling between islands. Despite his release, Bahamian authorities confirmed he remains a suspect in the ongoing investigation.
The search for Lynette Hooker has now transitioned into a recovery mission, with U.S. Coast Guard cadaver dogs
arriving in the Abaco Islands on Wednesday to assist local police.
While Brian Hooker has vowed that finding his wife is his “sole focus,” his attorney announced he will no longer participate in media interviews to dedicate his energy to the search coordination.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Coast Guard has opened a separate criminal investigation into the case as family members raise questions about the circumstances of the disappearance
