JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Congressman Tim Walberg officially filed his candidacy for the upcoming August 4th Republican primary, turning in the required signatures to represent Michigan’s 5th Congressional District.
Currently the Chairman of the House Education & Workforce Committee, Walberg is the only Republican to enter the race ahead of the April 21st filing deadline. His campaign enters the primary season positioned as the clear frontrunner for the GOP nomination.
Reflecting on his current term, Walberg highlighted his legislative record, including his work on the Working Families Tax Cuts and reforms to higher education.
The Congressman emphasized his focus on lowering healthcare costs and protecting the Great Lakes, while touting fiscal achievements such as tax exemptions for overtime, tips, and Social Security. Walberg maintains that his frequent engagement with constituents across the district, from Lake Michigan to Lake Erie, demonstrates a commitment to delivering tangible results for Michigan families.
