COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal softball team continues to roll in the month of April, starting off the week with a doubleheader sweep of Battle Creek Lakeview at the Rotary Softball Complex. The Cardinals took the opener 10-1 and won the nightcap 14-4 in 5 innings.
Laynie VanAken allowed one run on 5 hits, one walk, and 13 strikeouts in earning the victory in the first game. Offensively, she went 2-for-3 with a 3-run home run, while Coley Burkhardt hit two doubles.
The second game saw Coldwater score seven runs in the second inning as they put together a 19-hit attack. Winning pitcher Mackenzie Searing walked a batter and struck out 4 in 3-2/3 innings; she also uncorked a two-run homer. Vandria Bucklin went 4-for-4, while Addy Bucklin and Coley Burkhardt each were 3-for-4. Addy Bucklin and Rylie VanAken drove in two runs apiece.
The Cardinals improved to 13-0 overall and will visit Pennfield Tuesday night.
