UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – On a cool, rainy evening at Alumni Field, both Centreville track teams proved to be “top dog” at the Union City Invitational. Athletes from Coldwater, Quincy, and the host school did have strong showings throughout the meet.
Centreville edged Quincy for first place in the boys meet. The Bulldogs finished with 99 points, while the Orioles had 96.5. Coldwater was ninth with 25 points, and Union City finished tenth with 21 points. Quincy had a pair of double winners in Clayton Benson, who took first in both hurdle races, and Noah Rufenacht, who won the high jump and long jump. Noah Kelley and Micah Groves teamed up with Rufenacht and Benson to win the 4x200m relay. Union City’s Brady Anthony finished first in the pole vault. And for Coldwater, the team of Asher Corwin, Bentley Hesser, Hunter Wagoner, and and Carter Stahlhood won the rarely-seen 4×200 yard relay.
Centreville also won the girls meet with 122 points, 22 ahead of runner-up Niles Brandywine. Coldwater was third with 86 points, Quincy finished fourth with 63 points, and Union City was seventh with 37 points. Miyah Moore was a triple winner for the Cardinals, winning the 100m, 200m, and 400m, while Marie Powers won the shot put. Quincy’s Brookelyn Parker won the 100m hurdles and missed out on first place in the 200m hurdles by just .09 seconds. Addison Hasten was first in the discus. Union City’s Keira Taylor won the pole vault.
Coming up next week, Coldwater will host Harper Creek on Tuesday, while Quincy visits Union City on Wednesday.
