LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The next fiscal year’s budget is shaping up to be approved not only on time, but possibly early this year after last year’s negotiations stretched into October.
State House Speaker Matt Hall of Richland says they are “really only budgeting for three months of (Governor Gretchen) Whitmer, and then we’re going to renegotiate this deal with a new governor.”
The House passed its omnibus and School Aid budgets April 22nd, the earliest they had been passed since 2013 when they were approved April 24th.
The Senate is also likely to pass its budgets this week, which would mark the first time in 13 years that happened in April.
Negotiations between the House, Senate, and governor’s office would then begin toward the final budget.
