COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A driver refusing to pull over for Branch County deputies Monday night, led to a high speed chase that crossed the state line into Indiana.
Branch County deputies attempted to stop the vehicle around 9:45 p.m. but the driver refused leading a chase that worked it’s way through the southern part of the county, eventually onto southbound I-69 reaching speeds over 100 mph.
Just across the state line an Indiana State Police Trooper was able to successfully deploy stop sticks with a hit to a front tire.
The suspect continued southbound and attempted to exit onto the Indiana Toll road when the vehicle became disabled and he attempted to flee on foot but was captured almost immediately.
It’s unknown at this time why deputies were initiating the stop or why the suspect chose not to stop.
Steuben County jail records indicate 39-year-old Mason Holbrook of Coldwater was booked into the jail at 10:53 p.m. Monday night on charges of resisting law enforcement shortly after the pursuit ended. It’s unclear if that is related the chase.
