QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Lonney J. Evon, the revered coach who led the Quincy Orioles to a state baseball championship, passed away on April 21, 2026, at the age of 70.

A dedicated educator who taught math and business at Quincy Community Schools, Evon was widely known for his passion for baseball and his ability to mentor young athletes.
Following his retirement from teaching, he moved to Florida, where he remained active in his church community until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and their three children.
Evon’s most celebrated achievement on the diamond came during the 1998 season, when he guided the Quincy Orioles to the Michigan high school baseball state championship. That historic run solidified his legacy in the Quincy community, marking the pinnacle of a coaching career defined by discipline and a love for the game.

Memorial services are scheduled for May 2, 2026, at Riverland Baptist Church, with a livestream available for former players and friends who wish to pay their respects from afar.
