ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – The historic Lake James Golf Course in Angola, was sold at a public auction this week, for a total sales price of $622,200.
The 127-acre property, which has been a fixture in Steuben County since its founding as a nine-hole course in 1927, was offered in 14 individual tracts by Schrader Real Estate & Auction Company.
The decision to sell followed nearly a decade of ownership by Dave and Amy Demske, who expressed a desire to transition away from day-to-day operations and focus on family.
The auction drew significant interest due to the land’s potential for both continued recreational use and residential redevelopment. While the property was available as a complete golf package—including established infrastructure and 56 modern golf carts—it was ultimately divided among buyers who purchased various tracts ranging from single-acre lots to larger 23-acre parcels.
The final sale prices for the individual sections varied widely, with some tracts specifically marketed for their scenic views of Lake James and elevated building sites.
