BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Viking softball team improved to 12-4 with a doubleheader sweep of Hanover-Horton, 6-2 and 19-7 in five innings.
Madison Shaw was the winning pitcher in the first game, allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Delanee Carpenter drove in four runs while going 2-for-2 with a double. Hermosa Gonzalez went 2-for-3, and Roni Bir was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The second game saw Bronson collect 17 hits in support of winning pitcher Ashlynn Harris, who recorded 7 strikeouts on the circle and went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, a triple, and 2 RBI. Lydia Wells doubled and homered and drove in four runs, and Gonzalez went 3-for-3 with a homer and 2 RBIs.
Head coach Becky Gray said afterwards, “I was very pleased with the energy and joy we brought to the game tonight. We play so much better when we play with energy. We are still working on some things defensively, but I thought we hit the ball well tonight.”
The Vikings will compete at the Grand Rapids Northview Invitational on Saturday.
HOMER, MI – Quincy dropped a 7-4 decision at Homer despite out-hitting the Trojans 12-10.
Josi Parker was 2-for-4 with two doubles, Hannah Brown went 2-for-4, Taylor Lewis and Ary’Annah Freeman each were 2-for-3, and Mackenzie Sattison drove in two runs.
The Orioles fell to 5-13 and will host the Oriole Classic on Saturday.
Homer also won the JV contest 9-6.
DELTON, MI – Union City’s bats were booming at Delton Kellogg. The Chargers cranked out a total of 37 hits in their doubleheader sweep of the Panthers, 17-6 and 17-3 in five innings.
In the first game, Ellie Williams was 2-for-4 with a triple and six RBIs, while Hannah Schofield went 3-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs. Jezelle Nagel, Temperance Sours, and Lauren Tundevold had two hits apiece, and Ambrielle Phelps added a triple. Starting pitcher Brooke Thomas allowed three hits and struck out 17.
The second game saw Phelps go 4-for-5 with two doubles and 3 RBIs. Madisyn Washburn drove in three runs while going 3-for-4 with a double, while Schofield and Madson Krummrey each doubled. Pitcher Karlie Eagan gave up six hits, walked one, and struck out eight.
Union City improved to 11-5 and will host Climax-Scotts on Friday.
