David was born March 21, 1960 to Galen and Louise (Case) Lucas in Coldwater, Michigan. He graduated from Union City High School with the Class of 1978 with honors.
David married the love of his life, Lisa Louise Ray, August 11, 1984.
He grew up summers working on local farms and bailing hay. He also worked at a local mint farm and then at the Chevrolet dealership detailing cars. He worked at Brookside Body Shop, for Larry Spoor and for Jim Kidney, where he learned the auto body trade. He worked for Thousand Trails and Hayes Machine, both of Marshall, and lastly for Post Cereals of Battle Creek, where he spent 23 ½ years working as a mechanic.
David was a hard worker from a young age, and was taught if you want it, you must work for it. He loved to kayak and go canoeing. David and his best friend from childhood, Ron Harvey, canoed the Au Sable River Canoe Marathon together in 1983. This was a 120-mile river race that ran nonstop from Grayling, MI to Oscoda, MI. They finished with a time of 18h 48m 10s and took 9th Place in their division.
David spent the last 32 years living on his farm with his wife Lisa. He spent many hours remodeling their home, building barns, and maintaining the property.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing on the property with his wife Lisa, his daughters, and especially his grandsons. David was a perfectionist. He could do just about anything. He built bicycles, bows, furniture, cabinets, doors, and restored a vintage trail bike.
David is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years, Lisa; his daughters, Crystal (Adam) Preston and Amber (Derek) Hagaman; his grandsons, Alec, Aiden, and Avery Preston, and Hunter Hagaman; his sisters, Gail (Jeff) Duckworth and Lois (Don) Hammond: his parents-in-law, Larry and Janet Ray; his siblings-in-law, Brad and Kim Ray; his aunts, uncle, nieces, and nephews; and his friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Galen and Louise Lucas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Tekonsha First Baptist Church, 914 N. Main Street, Tekonsha, MI 49092.
