STOCKBRIDGE, MI (WTVB) – Bronson improved to 16-5 overall and 7-1 in the Big 8 as they swept a softball doubleheader at Stockbridge, 10-0 in six innings and 4-3.
Madison Shaw threw a four-hit shutout in the opener with no walks and 10 strikeouts. Roni Bir hit three doubles and drove in two runs, while Ashlynn Harris hit a two-run single, Hermosa Gonzalez and Audrey Shiery each added doubles as the Vikings tallied ten hits.
In the nightcap, Bronson scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to get the walkoff victory. Roni Bir’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly brought home Makenna Arnett to tie the game at 3-3. Lydia Wells was intentionally walked, and Madison Shaw scored the game-winner on Braelyn Gimenez’s RBI fielder’s choice. Gimenez had two RBIs on the game. Ashlynn Harris struck out six as she picked up the victory.
Bronson will host Schoolcraft on Thursday.
UNION CITY, MI – Union City improved to 13-7 overall and 6-4 in the Big 8 with a pair of home wins against Reading, 19-3 in four innings and 11-2.
The first game saw the Chargers collect 17 hits as they scored seven runs in the first and fourth innings and five runs in the third. Calli Wilkinson was 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs, while Madison Krummrey went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Ambrielle Phelps, Hannah Schofield, and Madisyn Washburn all doubled, and Lauren Tundevold drove in three runs on a fielder’s choice and a two-run single. Pitcher Brooke Thomas allowed two hits and struck out six.
Union City pounded out 20 hits in the second game. Wilkinson was 3-for-5 with a triple, while Phelps went 2-for-5 with a double and 2 RBIs. Krummrey, Karlie Eagen, and Washburn each went 3-for-4, and Ellie Williams added a double. Eagen recorded seven strikeouts in earning the victory.
The Chargers will take part in Colon’s Darmofal Tournament on Saturday.
COLDWATER, MI – Coldwater’s showdown against Harper Creek was postponed due to field conditions. It has been rescheduled for Thursday afternoon at the Rotary Softball Complex. Coverage on WTVB will join the doubleheader in progress at around 5:20 p.m.
