COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two three-run homers from Owen Tappenden helped lift Coldwater to a 14-3 non-conference win against Vicksburg Thursday at Lowe Field.
The Cardinals were down 3-1 early, but tied the contest in the third with a two-run shot from Kayden Roby. Coldwater then proceeded to break the game wide-open with six runs in the fourth and five in the fifth.
Tappenden finished with seven runs batted in. Roby was 2-for-2, Dayton Ennis doubled and drove in three runs, Finn Hanson added a double, and Will Knowlan went 2-for-2 with an RBI. Knowlan also earned the win in relief of Hanson, the starting pitcher.
Coldwater improved to 9-11 and will face DeWitt, Haslett, and Grand Rapids Christian Saturday during the Stout and Sons Invitational.
BRONSON, MI – Bronson split a doubleheader against Schoolcraft. The Vikings won the opener 11-0 in five innings, while the Eagles took the nightcap 15-5.
Max Byler threw a one-hitter in the first game, allowing two walks and striking out nine. He received a lot of run support early, as Bronson scored four runs in the first and seven in the second. Collin Webb drove in three runs, with two RBIs each from Joe Fair, Ben Stevens, and Graham Kriser. Wotta was 2-for-3, and Kriser went 2-for-2.
The Vikings fell in the second game despite out-hitting Schoolcraft 12-8. Stevens was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIS, while Rylan Fincham went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Fair and Reid Stukey also went 2-for-4.
Bronson will take a 13-8 record to their doubleheader Saturday at Sturgis.
