COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Housing Commission, along with their nonprofit Coldwater Housing Matters, broke ground this week on a new outdoor family engagement space at the Family Promise shelter.
The project will include a covered pavilion, playground area, and lighting—creating a safe and welcoming space for families to gather, eat meals, and spend time together outdoors.

The design is based on trauma-informed principles, extending the shelter’s focus on safety and stability beyond the building and into the outdoor environment.
The project builds on a 2024 statewide pilot supported by the Michigan Department of Education in partnership with Branch Intermediate School District, with Coldwater selected as one of only four sites in Michigan.
Construction is expected to be completed in June.
