COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal softball team improved to 22-1 after winning all three games at the quad they hosted Saturday at the Rotary Softball Complex. The Cardinals defeated Tecumseh 2-0, blasted Dowagiac 16-4 in five innings, and blanked Division 2 top-ranked Paw Paw 1-0.
Against Tecumseh, Laynie VanAken hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the seventh. She came home on Vandria Bucklin’s walkoff two-run homer. Mya Porter and Mackenzie Searing had the other hits off the Indians’ Kennadi Fulton. Laynie VanAken allowed just three hits and no walks with seventeen strikeouts.
Coldwater collected sixteen hits against Dowagiac. Coley Burkhardt went 4-for-4 with two doubles and 3 RBIs, Vandria Bucklin drove in five runs while going 2-for-3 with a double, Laynie VanAken was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Rylie VanAken went 3-for-4 with a double, and Addy Bucklin smacked a two-run homer while finishing 2-for-2. Audrina Bucklin allowed one walk and struck out four.
Against Paw Paw, the Cardinals scored the only run of the contest when Vandria Bucklin’s two-out RBI double in the sixth brought home Mya Porter. Rylie and Layne VanAken, Porter, and Vandria Bucklin had the only hits off the Red Wolves’ Lauren MacKellar. Mackenzie Searing and Laynie VanAken shared pitching duties for Coldwater; neither allowed a walk.
The Cardinals will host Hastings Tuesday on Senior Night.
ADRIAN, MI – Bronson improved to 20-5 as they swept a doubleheader at Adrian Madison, 16-0 in five innings and 15-3 in five innings.
The Vikings had seventeen hits against Madison in the opener, including three home runs. Roni Bir smacked two homers and finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while Audrey Shiery added a two-run round tripper. Winning pitcher Madison Shaw allowed three hits with ten strikeouts.
Lydia Wells and Braelynn Gimenez each homered in the nightcap; Wells finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs, and Gimenez went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Ashlynn Harris was 3-for-4 with three RBIs at the plate; she also struck out seven.
Bronson will visit Concord on Tuesday.
COLON, MI – Union City went 1-1 at Colon’s Darmofal Tournament. The Chargers lost to the host Magi 11-1 in six innings, then came back to defeat Reading 11-10.
Madison Krummrey and Hannah Schofield had the only Union City hits against Colon. Calli Wilkinson drove in the only Charger run on a third inning sacrifice bunt.
Against Reading, Wilkinson was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, Madisyn Washburn went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs driven in, and Ambrielle Phelps finished 2-for-3 with a double. Karlie Eagen recorded seven strikeouts on the circle.
Union City will take a 14-8 record to Tuesday’s games at Stockbridge.
