Shirley Jane Massey, 91, of Coldwater passed away Monday, May 11, 2026 at The Laurels of Coldwater.
A graveside service will be held Friday, May 15, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater.
Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Shirley was born April 29, 1935 in Coldwater, MI to Garland (Barney) & Hazel (Hildebrand) Born and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1953.
She had worked for Acorn Products, Quincy Products and later drove bus for the Coldwater Community Schools.
Shirley was gifted with a remarkable musical talent and found great joy in sharing it with others. Whether seated at the piano or the organ or filling a room with the lively sounds of the accordion, music was one of the great passions of her life.
Shirley was a devoted and lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was deeply involved with Chapter #1 in Coldwater, where she faithfully served in several offices throughout the years, most notably as organist. Shirley also had the honor of serving as Grand Organist for the state of Michigan and was an honorary member of Mystic Star Chapter #354 in Bronson.
Shirley was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed bowling. She was well known for her famous pumpkin rolls, which were a favorite treat a local craft shows. Shirley had a love of sewing with great skill and creativity. She could make anything, but T-shirts and sweatshirts were among her specialties that she also sold at craft shows.
Shirley spent the winter months in Davenport, FL at the Citrus Ridge Community for many years. She loved collecting junk (lol) and going to auctions to buy more. Those who knew Shirley would agree that she was truly one of a kind; with her many talents and spirited personality, she left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Shirley is survived by her children Randy Massey, Gary (Tammy) Massey, Susan (Brian) McCarville all of Coldwater; her grandchildren Jennifer (Josh) Burleson, John (Michelle) Massey, Bryan (Amy) Massey, Stacie (Joe Mason) Parker, Patricia “Tricia” (Trevor) Berry; her great grandchildren Raegan (AJ) Henderson, Carly Burleson, Avery Massey, Olivia Massey, Brynden Massey, Brady Massey, Preston Parker, Dayton Parker, Gauge Parker, Cameron Berry, Caleb Berry; her nephew Jeff Born and special niece Tonya (Matt) Bowers and great nephew Jackson Bowers.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Jim Born, Jack Born and her sister-in-law Juanita “Nita” Born.
