COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – On a chilly, breezy May evening at Coldwater High School, the Cardinal girls soccer team improved to 8-6-1 with a 4-3 win against Springport on Senior Night.
Coldwater’s Aivry Chavez scored the first goal of the contest in the fourth minute. Samantha Bernard added a goal eleven minutes later, assisted by Etta Machan. It remained 2-0 until Springport got on the board by converting a penalty kick goal with just over six minutes left in the first half. The Spartans knotted the game at 2-2 with 36 seconds left in the half.
The Cardinals retook the lead in the 58th minute on Bernard’s second goal of the night. Eleven minutes later, the Spartans got the equalizer. Machan punched in the game-winning score with 6:33 left.
Before the game, the seven seniors on the Cardinal varsity squad were recognized: Abby Garcia, Ava Gilchrist, Salet Morera Valdes, Esme Chavero, Samantha Bernard, Joseline Gallegos, Tallie Blankenship, and Kadence George.
Coldwater closes out the regular season Thursday night at Three Rivers.
