QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy swept a Big 8 doubleheader from visiting Concord on Tuesday, 9-4 and 22-0 in four innings.
In the opener, Bryson Estlow was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Seth VanStelle went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and JJ Wright was 2-for-3 with a triple as part of a twelve-hit attack. Wright was also the winning pitcher, allowing two hits and striking out seven in four innings.
Cobee Stevens threw a one-hit shutout in the nightcap with one walk and four strikeouts. Christian Craven was 2-for-3 with a triple and five RBIs, while Estlow went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. VanStelle added a two-run double as the Orioles collected 14 hits. They blew the game wide open with twelve runs in the fourth.
Quincy improved to 14-11-2 overall and wrapped up Big 8 play at 8-5-1. They will visit Jackson Lumen Christi on Saturday.
VERMONTVILLE, MI – Union City split a pair of one-run games at Maple Valley. The Chargers won the opener 3-2, while the Lions took the nightcap 4-3 in five innings.
In the first game, Nolan Chard earned the complete game victory, allowing two runs on four hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. Tucker Zweng was 2-for-4 with an RBI triple, Jaxson Dadow added an RBI double, and Simon Swartzle drew a bases-loaded walk.
Union City could only get three hits off Maple Valley pitcher James Coblentz in the second game: singles from Carson Liles, Chard, and Max Payne.
The Chargers are now 18-10 overall and conclude Big 8 play at 9-5. They will host old rival Athens on Friday.
