BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Branch County athletes taking part in this year’s MHSAA Lower Peninsula Track and Field Finals did well on Saturday. Eleven placed in the top eight in their respective events, earning medals and All-State recognition. One brought back to his school a state title.
Division 2 Lower Peninsula Finals at Hamilton
At the Division 2 Finals in Hamilton, Jackson Cilla closed out his high school athletic career with a third place finish in the boys shot put. Travon Mitchell finished third in the boys 300m hurdles. Miyah Moore was sixth in the girls 200m, while in the girls shot put, Marie Powers was fifth and Danika Cox finished seventh.
The Cardinals boys finished tied with Grand Rapids Christian for fifteenth place in the team standings with 12 points, while the Lady Cards were in a four-way tie for 28th with 9 points.

Division 3 Lower Peninsula Finals at Kent City
At the Division 3 Finals at Kent City, Brayden Fritz had a big day for Bronson, winning a championship in the boys discus with his throw of 164′ 2″. Quincy’s Noah Rufenacht was second in the boys high jump and third in the boys long jump, while Clayton Benson finished fifth in the boys 110m hurdles. Brookelyn Parker was fifth in the girls 300m hurdles and seventh in the girls 100m hurdles for the Orioles.
Quincy’s performances in the boys meet netted them a ninth place finish in the team standings with 17 points, while Bronson finished in a seven-way tie for seventeenth with 10 points. The Lady Orioles finished in a six-way tie for 26th with 6 points.
