COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The downtown historic district in Coldwater, has marked yet another preservation milestone with the complete restoration of a landmark 1920s Standard Oil station office.
Local certified public accountant James W. Gordon spearheaded the intensive rehabilitation project, transforming the long-neglected structure into a functional modern workspace while strictly preserving its original architectural heritage.
Workers meticulously revived the building’s distinctive period elements, including its vintage exterior masonry, classic roofline profile, and traditional service-station geometry. The finished project eliminates a long-standing vacancy on the corridor, replacing blight with a polished piece of local history that seamlessly integrates into the city’s broader downtown revitalization strategy.

The restored building not only provides a highly unique office space for Gordon’s accounting practice but also strengthens the visual and historical continuity of the neighborhood.
City officials say that individual investments of this caliber create a powerful compounding effect, encouraging neighboring property owners to invest in their own facades and ensuring that Coldwater’s architectural legacy remains vibrant for future generations.
