COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The investigation is continuing this morning into a horrific Thursday afternoon crash that critically injured a Branch County Road Commission employee and shut down the interstate for several hours as well as several other incidents .
Michigan State Police did confirm last night the unidentified worker was mowing on a tractor along I-69 near Newton Road around 1:00p.m. when for unknown reasons a semi ran off the road and rear ended the tractor.
The county employee who has not yet been identified was airlifted to an area hospital with unspecified injuries while police say the truck driver was uninjured.
That crash shut down traffic on 69 from the Fenn Road Exit all the way to the Jonesville Road exit.
While traffic was backed up waiting to exit the interstate at Fenn Road a second accident was reported around 3:00 p.m. at MM 9 that resulted in at least one person being injured and taken to the hospital but so far no other details have been released.
A third incident occurred when a tractor trailer was attempting to turn on to US-12 east of Coldwater when the trailer became stuck in the ditch with the cab blocking west bound traffic, fortunately no injuries were reported.
Emergency crews were also dispatched in that same time frame t0 the 500 block of West Central Road for a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.
Central Dispatch also handled several medical calls yesterday afternoon as well.
